Wizards buyout Mike Bibby

Newly acquired Washington Wizards point guard Mike Bibby has agreed to a buyout with the team and is now a free agent. Bibby met with the Wizards front office on Monday and the two sides agreed to terms on a buyout.

Bibby agreed to forfeit his entire $6.2 million salary for the 2011-2012 season in order to become a free agent and sign with a contender.

The Miami Heat are the strong favorites to sign Bibby and a deal could be struck between the two sides within the next 24 hours.

Bibby is a 12 year veteran who is best known for the role he played on the Sacramento Kings squads of the early 2000’s. His best season came in 2005 when the point guard averaged 21.1 points and 5.4 assists per game. The Heat would like to add his veteran presence and playoff experience.

Between the Kings and the Atlanta Hawks, Bibby has played in 80 post-season games where he has averaged 15.3 points and 4.3 assists per game. The Hawks traded Bibby to the Washington Wizards at last Thursday’s trading deadline for point guard Kirk Hinrich.

Bibby is averaging just 9.1 points and 3.6 assists per game this season.
