Saints release TE Jeremy Shockey

The New Orleans Saints have terminated the contract of TE Jeremy Shockey.

Executive V.P. and General Manager Mickey Loomis, thanked Shockey for all of his contributions to the team, Tuesday. In his three seasons with the Saints, Shockey caught 139 passes for 1,460 yards with six touchdowns.

He was on the books for $4.2 million plus a $500K reporting bonus for the 2011 season. He is now an unrestricted free agent – free to sign with any team he wants.

One of the main reasons Shockey, who caught 41 passes for 408 yards in 2011, was released was to free up playing time for young TE Jimmy Graham.
