Runner collapses during race in Tampa

It was hot. A little too hot. For one 54-year-old racer in Tampa, Florida a 15km race was too much.

Race-watchers performed CPR on the runner after he collapsed during the Gasparilla Distance Classic. It took the efforts of two fire rescue medics to resuscitate him. Fire rescue officials say the man was talking by the time he arrived at a hospital.

To add injury to insult: He also suffered facial injuries from the fall.

Fire rescue officials told the Associated Press they received about two dozen calls during the race for heat exhaustion.
