Round The ‘Block: 2/22/11

Holy Cow! Yesterday was one heck of a day around The [Five] and on The NickelBlock. Top Contributor, Mike Lederer, spent the entire day yesterday following the Carmelo Anthony trade here on The [Five] and then broke the story at 9:30pm last night. He was “the second of third person” to hear about the trade.

My Five Cents

The ‘Melo trade was the biggest news of the day – by far. The move puts the Knicks in the hunt. They trail the Boston Celtics by 12 games, so they might not catch Boston, but they have a chance to hang with Orlando and Atlanta for a decent seeding in the playoffs. Heck, they might even be able to track down Chicago.

The only problem is the Knicks are moving forward this season without a true center. And, historically, teams that don;t ahve a true center haven;t lasted long in the playoffs.

Hear Mike’s thoughts below.

Tuesday Morning Trix

I covered this last night, but it’s too good to pass up. Holy Family, a small D-III school, has suspended the men’s basketball coach after he was accused of attacking a player at practice.

Only problem, the alleged attack happened in late January.

John O’Connor, “has been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation by the university after he was accused of pushing, kicking and injuring sophomore Matt Kravchuk,” according to the Associated Press.

I heard from a player on the women’s ream – annonymously, of course – that the entire men’s team is ont he coaches side. And that: “the kid deserved it.”

There’s a youtube video of the incident that shows O’Connor pushing Kravchuk during drill, then kicking him while he lay ont he ground.
