MLB Mock Draft Mockery: Round Two

Our Mock Draft continues with the second round. Remember we are drafting with the snake method so it will be in reverse order for even numbered rounds. In other words: The team with the 10th pick in round one, has the first pick in round two and so on.

11th Pick (Team Ten): Ryan Howard, 1st basemen, Philadelphia Phillies

  • It’s a risk to use the 11th overall pick on a guy who hit .276 last season, but with that Howard still hit 31 home runs, 108 RBI and it was considered a down year. Howard has all the skill in the world and could easily end up with 40+ homers again in 2011.

12th Pick (Team Nine): Carl Crawford, Outfielder, Boston Red Sox

  • Some fantasy owners think Crawford is getting old; smart fantasy owners remember that Crawford hit .307 with 90 RBI while stealing 47 bases last season. He’s only 29 and he can still do it all, Crawford is a jack-of-all-trades and will make whoever picks him very happy.

13th Pick (Team Eight): Adrián González, First Basemen, Boston Red Sox

  • The former number one pick has dominated in the worst hitters park during his time with the Padres. Now Gonzo moves to Boston and will be slugging the ball in Fenway. Look for him to post the best numbers of his career and will be a top five fantasy 1B.

14th Pick (Team Seven): Josh Hamilton, Outfielder, Texas Rangers

  • .359 batting average, 32 homers, 100 RBI, and he’s on the board in the 2nd round? He will be available this late in most leagues and if he is…draft him. He’s not done dominating yet.

15th Pick (Team Six): Felix Hernandez, Starting Pitcher, Seattle Mariners

  • The season ending injury to Wainwright means people will be looking to secure their starting rotations earlier. Felix had nine no decisions and of his 12 losses he probably only deserved five of them. He will attempt to defend his AL Cy Young award and definitely won’t disappoint.

16th Pick (Team Five): Prince Fielder, 1st basemen, Milwaukee Brewers

  • In my opinion this is too high for Fielder, but he’s flying off the board higher than this in most drafts. If Fielder plays like he did in 2009 he’ll be one of the best hitters in baseball, if he plays like he did last year drafting him this high will be a significant disappointment.

17th Pick (Team Four): Chase Utley, 2nd basemen, Philadelphia Phillies

  • Utley is easily the 2nd best player at a thin position so by default his stock is higher. If he can stay healthy he should hit close to .300 with 30 bombs. If he can stay healthy.

18th Pick (Team Three): Joe Mauer, Catcher, Minnesota Twins

  • Mauer will be the first catcher taken and drafting him gives you a significant advantage since no other catcher in the game has the same offensive potential. He doesn’t have a lot of power but he’s been one of the most consistent hitters in the game for the past few seasons and that will continue in 2011.

19th Pick (Team Two): Time Lincecum, Starting Pitcher, San Francisco Giants

  • Lincecum is the most dangerous strikeout pitcher in Major League Baseball and save for a disastrous August had a great year in 2010. Lincecum will keep it going in 2011 as Los Gigantes will try to defend their World Series title. Look to hear his name in Cy Young conversations once again this season.

20th Pick (Team One): Alex Rodriguez, 3rd basemen, New York Yankees

  • Someone will draft him here just because he’s A-Rod. He’ll hit about .270 with 30 bombs, you’ll just be that guy in your league that drafts A-Rod. If you can deal with that, good for you, most people can’t.
