::cough:: sorry about that…

Apparently, Mike Lederer has made it a habit to break news that crashes our servers. I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy and this ticked at the same time.

At 2:58 this afternoon when Mike broke the Perkins trade story – beating all other media outlets by a full minute – our site tried to support the immediate influx of rabid sports fans.

Now, before this week started, we averaged about 300 visitors per day.

This week we’ve averaged about 1,300.

At that moment, about 1,000 people attempted to click-through to read Mike’s story.

Our servers were not quite prepared to handle that load. And they crashed.

Hard.

Mike did his best to continue to break news via twitter and facebook as The [Five] was down, intermittently, for roughly two hours.

But, hey, we’re back! And we cleaned up all the dust and debris from the crash and should be good to go for when the next story breaks.

Because we all know: If a story is about to break, Mike Lederer knows about it.
