Twins sign P Carl Pavano

The Minnesota Twins have re-signed pitcher Carl Pavano to a 2-year deal worth $16.5 million.

Pavano had been the top rated starting pitcher left on the market. His services were being heavily pursued by both the Twins and the Washington Nationals. Minnesota had consistently been offering a 1-year contract to Pavano but finally upped their offer to two years.

Last season with the Twins, Pavano went 17-11 with a 3.75 ERA and 7 complete games. The 35-year old right hander is 97-89 with a 4.34 lifetime ERA.

With Pavano now off of the market, Philadelphia Phillies right hander Joe Blanton is the most attractive option for a team looking for starting pitching depth via trade.
