Packers rout No.1 seeded Falcons, 48-21

Brett Favre who? The Green Bay Packers have found a quarterback that knows how to win big games inside.

“I like playing in domes because the weather is perfect,” Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “And I get to wear my favorite shoes.”

It’s gotta be the shoes.

Birds continue to drop from the sky in the Southeast, this time 53 Falcons from Atlanta stopped soaring and the Green Bay Packers win their second consecutive postseason road game, beating the Atlanta Falcons, 48-21.

“The stage that we were on and the importance of this game,” Rodgers said. “Yeah it was a good night”

The Packers too control early after falling behind, 14-7, on an Atlanta kickoff return for a touchdown. Aaron Rodgers and company took the field and started to flew their offensive muscles.

“I think the second drive was the most important drive,” Rodgers said after the game. “We have the ball on the eight-yard line, to go 90 yards and score was big.”

The 10-play 92 yard drive ended with a 1-yard John Kuhn run. It was the beginnings of something historic.

Rodgers finished the game with three touchdown passes and another on the ground. He completed 31-of-36 (completing more passes in a playoff game than Favre ever managed) for 366 yards hitting four receivers for more than 75 yards.

One of his receivers, James Jones, who was responsible for two big-time drops in the past three weeks exercised a few demons by not dropping a pass all game.

Jones finished with four catches for 75 yards, including a touchdown.

While the Packers gained steam, the Falcons problems were boiling over. The Falcons started the with decent field position tied at 14. But that was as close as they would get. five of the next six possessions ended with Atlanta giving the ball back to the Packers – four via turnovers.

The most backbreaking was a pick-six as the first half came to an end.

Atlanta’s Matt Ryan – who beat Rodgers in Pro Bowl voting – stared down his receiver and the Packers’ Tramon Williams jumped the out-route and took the ball 70 yards for the score.

Ryan finished with two interceptions and a fumble on 20-for-29 passing for 186 yards. A familiar feeling for Ryan, who as a rookie in the 2008 playoffs, had three turnovers and was sacked for a safety in a 30-24 loss at Arizona.

The teams went into the break, Packers up, 28-14.

The Packers tallied 42 points before Atlanta could catch their breath. By the time Matt Ryan found Roddy White in the endzone it was :39 seconds into the fourth quarter and the Falcons chances of winning were all but decimated.

“I know they’re disappointed. I’m disappointed. We’re all disappointed,” Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith told the AP. “But we will learn from it. That’s the important thing. We will learn from what took place this evening. I also told ’em, as bad as they feel right now, remember the whole body of work we put out there this year. We can’t forget that either.”

The Packers will travel to the winner of the Seattle-Bears game for the NFC Championship game.
