Davis Love III named Ryder Cup Captain

Despite Europe winning six of the last eight matchups, including last October in Wales, Davis Love III’s plans to return the Cup to American soil.

Love was introduced Thursday as the next American captain for the 2012 Ryder Cup. He finished sixth at the U.S. Open in 2010 and started 2011 by placing ninth at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

The 2012 Ryder Cup will be held at Medinah Country Club. The Cup is still 18 months away, but Love has already started thinking about how to reverse the Americans’ recent Ryder Cup troubles.

“I’m a players’ captain,” he told the AP. “I’ll try to get them what they need to be successful. I’m not going to tell the best players in the world how to play golf. I’m not going to read their putts. I’m going to stay out of their way and let them show their talents. I think a good leader knows he’s got a great team and just gets them prepared and let’s them go play.”

The AP is also reporting that Europe appointed two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal as the captain on Tuesday.
