Beaver Fans, wake up

Truth be told, having the Oregon Ducks in the National Championship isn’t all bad for an Oregon State Beaver fan.

Sure, listening to Duck fans go on-and-on-and-on about how great their team is, gets old. There is only so many Os and so much LaMichael James talk one person can handle. Heck, if it weren’t for this run to the National Championship, the Duck fans would still be talking up their Rose Bowl berths.

Because of that, a lot of Beaver fans have bought into the motto: “If we can’t beat the Ducks this year, no one can beat the Ducks this year.”

Even worse, the Beaver fans, nearly rampant, unnecessary support of Auburn.

Really? Auburn, guys? Beaver fans rooting for a shady character? Since when? Don’t fans have more class than that.

That doesn’t mean cheering for Oregon is the only option. But understanding the “bonus factor” of having Oregon in the game is important.

Firstly, it’s important to thank your Oregon brethren. If it weren’t for those “high-flying” and overly-flashy Ducks, the Beavers wouldn’t be netting a healthy chunk of $21.2 million – minus about two-million dollars given for travel.

So instead of saying, “FTd” or “War Eagle” in spite of the Ducks, at least acknowledge that they are responsible for making Oregon State, roughly, $1.9 million dollars better.

And, given the news today that Beaver running back Jacquizz Rodgers is going pro, it might help to have an extra Two-million hanging around.

  3. No way, couldn’t do it. We were going to get that chunk of the BCS money either way.

I don’t think most beaver fans are rooting for an auburn win, but rather an Oregon loss.

Come on nick, check your diploma son, it’s ok to be a fan!

  5. Not only is OSU getting the money, but imagine if Oregon won…then OSU beat them next year. Isn’t it sweeter to say I just beat the champs, then to say I just beat the runner-up.

Also your making your conference better by having your rival win. Look at the SEC, do you think Auburn would be #1 in the polls going into last night’s game if the SEC hadn’t won the last 3 to 5 BCS National Championship games. By comparison, look at the Big East. What love does Pitt/Syracuse get for winning that conference. If your conference wins, you win. When its your turn to be on top of the conference, and your conference has won national championships, you have the right to say “where is mine!” If your conference sucks, and produces nobody worth mentioning…when you win you have no right to say “where is mine”…….(aka Boise St)

  7. “Because of that, a lot of Beaver fans have bought into the motto: “If we can’t beat the Ducks this year, no one can beat the Ducks this year.””

    That doesn’t even make sense.

“Really? Auburn, guys? Beaver fans rooting for a shady character?”

Exactly what about Auburn makes it a “shady character”? If you’re talking about the dealings with Cam Newton’s dad, then that’s just silly, and I would argue that by that token, Phil Knight is a waaaay shadier character than ol’ Cecil Newton. And don’t even get me started on LaMichael James. How he managed to get through the Heisman race without a single mention of the fact that he didn’t play in the season opener because a GUILTY PLEA TO PHYSICAL HARRASSMENT (!!!), all while Cam Newton was being vilified for something his father did, is beyond me. So if you want to call out Auburn for being shady, I want to call out Oregon for being downright corrupt.

This Beaver fan says FTD, all day long, 365 days a year. I don’t care who they’re playing, what the stakes are, or how much money they can rake in for Oregon State. Only Ducks care about dollar signs, dude.

  9. @Chris: Thank you, while I wasn’t rooting for anyone last night, it’s nice to know I wasn’t the only Beaver out there NOT cheering for Auburn.

@Colt: I don’t know where my Diploma is, but I will say when the Ducks lost. I was sort of happy. At least knowing I don’t have to listen to crappy duck fans go on-and-on about the game will be nice.

@Adam: I wouldn’t have minded an UO win. Big boost for the Pac-10, like you said.

@Sara: I miss you Sara Cain.
