Donovan McNabb Benched

Rex Grossman will be the starting QB for the Washington Redskins as they take on the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday.

Donovan McNabb has been benched and the locker room is reportedly divided.  Many players believe offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is using McNabb as a scapegoat for the team’s lack of success.

An unidentified player told Jason LaCanfora of the NFL network that, “the guys in the locker room are extremely pissed.”

On McNabb and the Redskins reached an agreement on a five-year contract worth up to $78.5 million — but with only $3.5 million guaranteed as a signing bonus.  An additional $36.5 million becomes guaranteed if he is on the roster for opening day next season.

McNabb was traded to the Redskins this past offseason for a 2nd round pick in the 2010 draft and a 2011 draft pick.  Since he will unlikely make the Pro Bowl and take less than 70% of the offensive snaps, the Eagles will receive a 4th round pick in the 2011 draft.

The 12-year veteran out of Syracuse is having his worst statistical season since his rookie year.  In 13 games, McNabb has 3,377 yards with 14 touchdowns and a career worst 15 interceptions.
