Updated BCS Game Predictions

National Championship – Oregon vs. TCU

After seeing Arizona lose to USC and Oregon State lose to Washington State, I have changed my mind about the possibility of Oregon losing a game to either of the two. Now that I think the Ducks will go undefeated, they deserve the chance to play in the National Championship game. As for TCU, I feel a lot less confident in this pick then I did last week after they barely beat a good San Diego State team and with Utah looking terrible against Notre Dame. However, I still think TCU will be the pick here if Auburn loses a game, and I think they will, to either Alabama or South Carolina in the championship game.  Winner: TCU

Rose Bowl – Stanford vs. Michigan State

Since I now project Oregon to go to the National Championship, the Rose Bowl now has an at large selection, but with TCU being in the National Championship, they do not have the obligation of picking a non-AQ team to the Rose Bowl. Due to that, I think the Rose Bowl Committee will want a California team and will pick a very good Stanford team to fill in. Just like last week, I think Michigan State will represent the Big Ten in the Rose. I expect Wisconsin and Michigan State to win out, and Ohio State will lose another game, which would result in a two-way tie between Wisconsin and Michigan State for the Big Ten title. Head-to-head results then determine the conference’s BCS berth, which results in Michigan State making it to Pasadena. Winner: Stanford

Orange Bowl – Virginia Tech vs. LSU

Virginia Tech is still the pick here as I don’t think any team in the ACC has a chance of knocking the Hokies off. People need to start giving them more credit as they have looked great since suffering that loss to James Madison back in September. The Orange Bowl should then grab LSU as an at large berth since LSU is a top 10 team that would bring tons of fans and TV ratings. I think a Virginia Tech and LSU matchup would be pretty interesting, but I think the Hokies would pull it out. Winner: Virginia Tech

Fiesta Bowl – Nebraska vs. Syracuse

Just like last week, it is becoming tempting to pick Oklahoma State to win the Big 12 as they continue to look good, but I think in the Big 12 championship Nebraska would be able to shutdown their offense enough to pull out a win. As for the Big East, the Fiesta Bowl will get last pick for BCS teams, so they will probably be stuck with the Big East champion. However, with Pittsburgh loss to Connecticut this past weekend, I am not confident in picking any team as the Big East champion. I think Pitt will lose to South Florida and West Virginia which would knock them out of contention for the Big East. So based on how I think the season will shakeout, I think Syracuse will be the one left at the top and go to the Orange Bowl as the Big East champion. Winner: Nebraska

Sugar Bowl – Auburn vs. Boise State

Auburn is the pick here as I expect them to win the SEC championship game against South Carolina, but I think they will lose to Alabama on Thanksgiving weekend. That loss should knock them out of the National Championship contention and land them in the Sugar Bowl. I think Boise State deserves to be in a BCS game as they are definitely a Top 4 team in the nation, but there does not seem to be any BCS bowl games that will be good fit for them based on my predictions. I think the average college football fan would like to see Boise State against and SEC team, so I think the Sugar Bowl will grab them as the Tigers competitor.  Winner: Boise State
