The AP is reporting Robbie Caldwell will resign as Vanderbilt’s head football coach after the Commodores finish their season against Wake Forest tonight.
Caldwell took over after working as an assistant head coach and offensive line coach under Bobby Johnson. Caldwell took over in July, when Johnson announced his unexpected retirement.
When he took over, Caldwell said, “I look forward to the challenge of guiding the Vanderbilt football program, and fully understand the task at hand. At the same time, I am truly excited about the opportunity to continue building this program just as Bobby Johnson did for the last eight years.”
The Commodores are just 2-9 and rank 115th in total offense, averaging 285.1 yards.
As an assistant, Caldwell coached in 11 postseason bowl games and six conference-winning squads. He coached five All-Americans and seven of his players were drafted to the NFL.
