Asante Samuel out vs Bears

Eagles CB Asante Samuel will miss Sunday’s game at Chicago with a left knee sprain.

Samuel did not practice all week in preparation for the Week 12 showdown with the Bears however Eagles coach Andy Reid refused to rule Samuel out as late as Friday afternoon.

On Saturday morning he was downgraded to out. Samuel will not make the trip to Chicago.

7th year CB Joselio Hanson will start at left corner back in Samuel’s place. Hanson will join fellow undrafted CB Dmitri Patterson on the outside. Rookie 4th round pick Trevard Lindley will work into the nickel package with fellow rookie Jorrick Calvin getting work as well.

In the past Hanson’s speed has been brought into question when he has been forced to move to the outside. It will be interesting to see how Mike Martz, Jay Cutler, and the rest of the Bears offense look to attack the corner.

The loss of Samuel is a major blow to an Eagles team looking to win its 4th straight game. The Pro Bowl CB currently leads the NFL with 7 interceptions on the season.

It will be interesting to see how the Eagles defense responds as they travel to Soldier Field to take on the Bears Sunday at 4:15pm.
