Updated BCS Game Predictions

National Championship – Ohio State vs. Boise State

After Alabama was shellacked by South Carolina by two touchdowns, it is looking like the two best teams in the nation are Ohio State and Boise State. Oregon is in the conversation, but after a less than impressive win against Washington State, I’ll have to leave them out. Ohio State does have a tough road test this week against Wisconsin. Boise State should be winless the rest of the way but will have a tough road game against a very good Nevada team on November 26th. I could also see TCU being in this championship game if they are able to win out which would then include wins against top 25 teams Oregon State and Air Force and a top 10 team in Utah. Nebraska is also a possible contender for this game as their schedule appears to be fairly easy with the possibility of not playing a ranked team until the Big 12 Championship depending on how the cards fall. Should be a very interesting rest of the way with some very good undefeated teams left. So for the time being, the tentative pick is Ohio State vs. Boise State. Winner: Ohio State

Rose Bowl – Oregon vs. Oklahoma

I bet Oklahoma fans would be happy to face Oregon after Oklahoma was cheated out of a win against Oregon a few years back due to very bad Pac 10 officiating. I see Oregon losing at least one game (and their chance at a national championship) down the stretch as they have to travel to USC and Oregon State and face Arizona at home. With Ohio State going to the national championship, I would expect the Rose Bowl committee to pick a great at-large team to matchup against Oregon, and that will be Oklahoma. Winner: Oregon

Orange Bowl – Florida State vs. South Carolina

Florida State’s win against Miami put them in the best position to win the ACC. They may have a tough test in the ACC championship game if they face Virginia Tech, but they should be able to pull out the win with the way this Seminole team has played since their embarrassing loss to Oklahoma. I think the Orange Bowl will then grab the SEC runner-up which I expect to be South Carolina. With the SEC East having a down year and Florida not being the team it once was, the Gamecocks should win that division and then lose to Alabama in a rematch in the SEC Championship game. Winner: Florida State

Fiesta Bowl – Nebraska vs. TCU

After watching Nebraska completely dismantle Kansas State, I do not see one team in the Big 12 (North or South) that could beat the Cornhuskers with how good their defense is and the emergence of freshman QB Taylor Martinez. However, they still do have some interesting games coming up against Texas, Oklahoma State, Missouri, and then most likely Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship. TCU has some tough tests coming up against #25 Air Force and on the road at #7 Utah. If they are able to get through that undefeated, then they should be in consideration for the National Championship game, but I expect them to get passed over for the NC game and be picked for the Fiesta Bowl. Winner: TCU

Sugar Bowl – Alabama vs. West Virginia

Even though Alabama lost to South Carolina this pack weekend, I still think they will win the SEC West even though it won’t be easy as they still must play at LSU and against Auburn at home at the end of the year. I then expect them to go on and win the rematch against South Carolina in the SEC Championship game. As for their opponent, the Sugar Bowl will grab the winner of the Big East which will be West Virginia. The Mountaineers will most likely win the rest of their games with only a potential loss coming in the Backyard Brawl against Pittsburgh. Winner: Alabama
