Hot off the Wire: Larry Johnson cut from Redskins

Matthew Harris and I joked on The NickelBlock this week about the lack of a running game in Washington – even though the ‘Skins entered training camp in the summer with solid running backs like Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker.

Parker was released before the start of the reason. And now, another one bites the dust.

According to the AP:

ASHBURN, Va. (AP)—Larry Johnson was released by the Washington Redskins on Tuesday after gaining just 2 yards on five carries in two games with the team.

Johnson was part of a trio of accomplished veteran running backs at the Redskins’ training camp, and two of those players are now gone. Willie Parker was cut at the end of preseason, while Clinton Portis has remained the team’s No. 1 back.
