A week in (P)review

The NickelBlock continues Monday night at 11:59PM Eastern. And it’s going to be a doozy of a Hoot ‘n’ Nanny. Follow along East Coasters.

My five cents

We will be mixing in some sounds of the underground again. Leading Off the show is another song from Xile, a hip-hop artist out of Portland, Oregon. His song, Semper Fi led off the show last week with raving reviews so he returns for a second go-around.

Jon Doss (soon to be a contributor at The [Five]) stops by the NickelBlock Studios again. This time he brings with him Matthew Harris (you may have heard of his last employer: ABC News). Look for the debate to tackle everything from Tiger Woods to butter-melting voices to homosexual Power Rangers.

You can hear the un-cut interview on The [Five] anytime (or On Demand as the TV world likes to call it). And be sure to listen in tomorrow night for the final product, complete with a few surprises.

Sunday Night Stew

The Cincinnati Bengals must be hard to cheer for. Today, the team cut Antonio Bryant. Only 172 days after signing a four-year $28 million deal he is no longer a member of the Cincinnati Bengals Organization.

The team’s ego was also cut. In half.

It’s presumed that Bryant still has talent and speed – when he is healthy. Here is a guy who has put up above average numbers in his career. In his eight years as a professional he has amassed 5685 yards on 372 receptions. With 30 touchdowns.

Then again, I think Jerry Rice had that same stat line during a 40-game stretch in the mid-90s.

Bryant missed three games last season but only grabbed 39 receptions for 600 yards. Posting his lowest yards per game average since the 2003-2004 season in Dallas (remember that offense? Quincy Carter, Troy Hambrick, Terry Glenn and Joey Galloway).

Cincinnati was hoping his knee was repaired.

It wasn’t. So they cut him.

And Cincinnati was willing to eat eight-mil in the process. Do the math… roughly… well… Let’s just say, he was paid more per day than I am likely to make my first year out of graduate school.

That’s right people. He made a hair more than $46,000 every day. Or about $1,900 ever hour.

Or $32 every minute.

It’s funny. Often times fans wonder “where did my team go wrong?” In Cincinnati, I think they know. Between Akili Smith, the slew of other busts and the handful of talented players simply released… The Bengals aren’t exactly batting above the Mendoza Line.

A Michigan man may hold the record for the dumbest smart idea in the history of the free world. The idea? Take a car for a test drive and swap out the expensive wheels and tiresfor some cheap wheels and tires. Not too bad.

According to reports, the man took a 2010 GMC Yukon for a test spin during an afternoon this past week and returned the vehicle sans original wheels and tires.

The cost of replacement to the dealership: Roughly $4,000.

But the dealership isn’t fretting too hard. See, in order for any test-driver to test-drive the dealership must have a copy of the drivers license on file. And they do.
