Boxers clown Linfield

A balanced scoring effort and a dominant rebounding effort, particularly on the offensive end, led Pacific to their fourth win in their last five games Friday night as the Boxers rolled to a 76-59 Northwest Conference men’s basketball victory over Linfield in their home season finale at the Pacific Athletic Center.

Ross Bartlett (Sr., St. Helens, Ore.) and LeMar Anglin (Jr., Chicago, Ill.) led the Boxers with a pair of double-doubles as six Pacific players scored in double figures. Bartlett, playing in his final home game, came up with 13 points and 12 rebounds while Anglin came up with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Pacific (8-14, 4-9 NWC) shot just 39 percent from the field (30-77), but out-rebounded the Wildcats 54-35, which included an impressive 27 offensive rebounds.

Carson Bartlett (So., St. Helens, Ore.) added 12 points and Charles Mosley (Fr., Hillsboro, Ore.) added 11 to go along with nine rebounds. Colin Wester (Fr., Sherwood, Ore.) scored 10 and A.J. Gaulton (Sr., Pleasant Hill, Ore.) added 10 to go along with eight assists in his final home game.

Joseph Vance led Linfield (10-11, 8-5 NWC) with 13 points while Cody Tesoro, who scored 36 points against Willamette on Saturday, was held to just 10 points. K.C. Wiser had 10 rebounds in his return to the Wildcats’ lineup. Linfield finished the evening shooting 38.9 percent from the field (21-54).

Pacific opened the game on a 7-2 run and opened up a 13-4 lead on an Adam McElwee (Fr., Woodinville, Wash.) three-pointer five minutes into the contest. Linfield continued to sputter on the offensive end and found themselves down 13 points, 24-11, on a Ross Bartlett three-point play with 8:46 to go.

The Wildcats came back with a vengeance, outscoring the Boxers 18-5 over the final nine minutes of the stanza. Vance cut the lead to one with his three-point play with 1:43 to go and a late free throw by Jon Weber evened the score 29-29 at the break. Pacific pulled down 25 rebounds in the first half, 12 on the offensive glass.

After a brief Linfield lead and two more ties, the Boxers used well-timed big baskets and more aggressive rebounding. Wester’s three-pointer at the 18:17 mark broke a 33-33 tie and sparked a 13-4 run over the next six minutes, which culminated on a short Anglin jumper that gave the Boxers the 46-35 lead.

The Wildcats came back to reduce the lead to six on a Tesoro lay-in with 10:22 left and stayed within single digits for the next three minutes. Linfield trailed nine, 56-47, when a pair of Mosley free throws started a 16-7 run that put the Boxers up by 20 points, 74-54, with 1:34 to go.

Pacific will finish up the 2009-10 with three straight road games.
