Even more interesting….

Yes, it gets even more interesting. For those of you keeping score, last week prior to the Oregon State-Hawaii game, KBVR was told if I showed up in the press box that I would be escorted out by security.

Well, according to KBVR staffers, the press area was full of people “on the lookout” for me. When the KBVR crew arrived one staffer popped his head out and checked to “make sure Nick didn’t try and sneak in.”

Wow. Last I checked the press box was a place of business. When did it turn into a clubhouse?

Sneak in? For God’s sake are we kids again? If someone says I’m not welcome – regardless of reason – I’m not going to show up. That would be childish and absurd. I’m not that kind of a person. I’m not 12.

I was also told that other Oregon State Athletics staff members were asking questions about my whereabouts – repeatedly. Like they though I was hiding under the table or somewhere in a wig. It sounded like they thought if they kept asking someone would slip up. Oh yea, Nick, he is at the water fountain… crap! I’m surprised they didn’t search through all of the KBVR audio equipment to make sure I wasn’t hiding in the headsets.

My whereabouts at the time were 85 miles to the North helping out with a garage sale and listening to the game intently.

But I’m curious why one person deserved such effort? Multiple inquires and multiple people on the lookout? Am I a terrorist? Since when was it necessary to give so much attention to a former student? A former student-employee? It’s like they thought I was going to show up with a gun. Or worse, a pen.

While I know the people who visit this site regularly sit on both sides of the fence in regards to my writing style. Some think I’m hogwash, some think I’m alright. But, I’d imagine both would scratch their heads at this scenario.

First, they tell a former Student Media Committee member, former KBVR Program Director / Sports Director / Commentator  and former Daily Barometer Sports Editor / Sports Columnist and current student (technically) that if he shows up to help out when KBVR asks, he will be escorted out by security. Then they are so worried he will show up anyway they have staff members asking current student media members about his whereabouts on multiple occasions to make sure he didn’t “sneak in.”

Befuddling. This is almost as weird as when Mike Belotti’s wife berated John Canzano. All you can do is scratch your head.

I know that’s all I have been doing. That and I’m left wondering what was gained by banning a former student media member, who was being asked to help out, from the press area (other than allowing someone to flex their “muscles”).

I almost feel like e-mailing someone upstairs but I’m not sure I want the answer. For one, if they are checking to see if I “snuck in” I don’t know if I would get a real response and two, if I did get a said response, I think they would reveal they were afraid I would show up with firearms.

At least that is the only explanation that comes to mind. Either that or I have ebola.
