To do list…

June is looming and this publication is only going to print a few more times before seniors get their degrees and freshman return home after their first year of college. Sure, school is still rolling, but there is still room to reflect – on the past year or past college career.

They are really the same. Remember the end of the first year of college? You were excited to be done, looking for a job, making vacation plans, calling old high school friends.

Not much has changed. Sure, you aren’t the same person you were when school started. You’ve done a lot, accomplished goals, made mistakes. It was a wild ride, wasn’t it?

While I hate lists, this one is a necessity. There are a few things in college every person should have accomplished, both good and bad. By the time everyone leaves after four (or five… or six) years of school.

Everyone should have…

  1. Snuck into every major sporting stadium/arena on campus. After hours.
  2. Known somebody, who knows somebody, who had the inside scoop on Beaver sports.
  3. Met an inebriated under age student-athlete at a party that was saying, “I don’t give a —-, they can’t kick me off the team, they need me.” And been coherent enough to remember it.
  4. Joined in on heckling the opposing soccer team in Paul Lorenz Field – even if they hate soccer.
  5. Hit on a T.A. for a better grade.
  6. Joined the Beaver Dam for one year because the benefits weren’t worth the money.
  7. Fed the narcissistic behavior of at least one star student-athlete.
  8. Went to one competition for every sport that uses Gill.
  9. Had a group project with a baseball or softball player and questioned how they graduate when they are never in class.
  10. A memory of listening to Mike Parker call a game.
  11. Thrown something at that horrifically flamboyant pointless football. Even if all that is thrown are insults.
  12. Said once, “When I was a freshman…”
  13. Yelled “C’mon! Check your eyes Blue!” in Goss after a fastball misses on the corner. Even if you are sitting right field.
  14. Subscribed to Sports Illustrated and complained that Rick Reilly isn’t on the back page anymore.
  15. Sat next to a student-athlete in class and not asked every Monday, “How was the game?”
  16. Known a gymnast.
  17. Went to every home game for a specific sport for an entire season – excluding football and men’s basketball.
  18. Nagging pain from an injury sustained from during an intramural football game – when they were leading 36-0.
  19. Know the names Terry Baker, A.C. Green, Mike Hass, and Jacoby Ellsbury and an accompanying piece of trivia.
  20. Been on T.V. during a timeout at a basketball game.
  21. Listened to play-by-play of one game on KBVR.
  22. Heard Mike Riley laugh.
  23. Stayed up all night studying Sunday because all day Saturday they were celebrating a Beaver football victory.
  24. Failed a biology exam.
  25. Had a job on campus and complained about the workload.
  26. Went to a volleyball game and not hollered racial slurs at the opposition.
