The Beavers may have smelled a victory tonight at Gill, but it always appeared just outside of their reach. Despite the intensity from the bench, I never had the impression that they had the composure to complete such an overwhelming upset. Just too many mental mistakes.
Lathen Wallace led the team tonight with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Marcel Jones managed to put up an impressive effort (after talking himself into a corner) with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Calvin Haynes added 16 points in the loss.
If the Beavers couldn’t capitalize on their opportunity, it was because Marty Leunen (32 Pts) & the Ducks seemed confidently determined to keep OSU outside of the “W” column.
UO is looking to sneak their way into March Madness, and an embarrassing loss to the Beavs tonight would have essentially killed those hopes.
