Live From The Emerald Bowl: Halftime

Receiver Gabe Miller got rocked by Maryland cornerback Isaiah Gardener.

Mike Riley needs to run the fly sweep at least 20 more times in the game. At least 4 of them would be TDs. The play is unbeatable against the Maryland corners.

Oh and if you’re wondering what is so whacky about the officiating tonight, turns out that it is actually a WAC crew throwing the flags.

OSU missed a huge opportunity when an offsides penalty negated a fumble recovery by Daniel Drayton. I wasn’t convinced that the call was deserved.

Drayton is a Baller tonight. Getting large and coming up with a clutch interception, which would have been a touchdown if his foot didn’t stray out of bounds on the return. Dude has some serious moves. Unfortunately the beavers miss a major opportunity by turning over the ball for the second time tonight.

As expected, OSU has shut down the Maryland running game thus far, but the Terrapin passing attack has forced Riley to call out his hired guns–speed rushers Victor Butler and Slade Norris. Vic comes up with a huge sack on QB Chris Turner, leading to a Maryland punt.

Canfield comes back in during the second quarter, as the team has struggled to continue drives with Moevao at the helm. (update: Lyle Moevao was injured with 13 minutes to go in the half. . . I’ll update his status as information comes here) He appears to be playing better than Lyle on his second drive, although a ridiculously heart-breaking field goal attempt by Serna negates the effort. The ball hit the crossbar.

On the next Maryland possession, #23 Bryan Payton recovers a fumble, and returns it back to nearly the Maryland 35 yard line. OSU finally catches a break with the zebras, getting a timely pass interference call. . . however Sean Canfield makes a peculiar decision two plays later that results in a Maryland Interception by backup linebacker Louis Berman. Not sure what Sean was thinking on that one. I give him props, and then he goes loony on me. I hope we can call it a fluke.

The Beavers and the Terrapins have been trading possessions the entire second quarter, but with 1:19 to go in the half it appears that the Beavers may have an opportunity in the Maryland red zone. The Beavers pick up a first down to the 2 yard line, compliments of Bernard. . . who moves, shakes, and dances into the end zone with 16 seconds to go in the half. I’m sure that there is a lot of high-fiving going down in Boca Raton. OSU needed the score. 14-14 tie game.

Mike Riley has the team with with all the momentum right now. Lets see what happens in the second half.

  1. Just so you guys know… Rece Davis said at the start of the half time report that SC5picks, pass was “One of the worst passes in the history of organized football.”
