Live From The Emerald Bowl: Final

As I suspected, Maryland appears to be taking shots down the field. Chris Turner’s 26 yard pass is complete to the OSU 19 yard line. . . the beavers cannot afford to give up a TD right now, and it appears that they recognize that. Al Afalava and Tim Clark shut down the Terp receivers in the red zone, and Obi Egekeze’s 32 YD field goal is Wide Left. It looked like the ones he was kicking in practice.

Bernard is up to 29 rushing attempts with 11:05 to go in the game. Mike Riley and my dad should hang out, maybe have a little Yve love fest. Well he is now #6 on the Pac-10 all time rushing list. I feel the love, do you?

How about the leading rusher in Emerald Bowl history?

yeah.

It looks like Mike Riley is hoping to eat clock like a bulimic, except theres no throwing it up involved. It’s been all ground for the Beav’s in the 4th so far. OSU punt.

Maryland 3 and out results in a punt.

James Rogers is really, really fast. Especially when he gets a couple helping hands (read: holding). The penalty drops back the Beavers to the 10 yard line. A shame, because it negated a major fly sweep. I swear we could win 10 games a year only running variations of that play. Brady Camp’s screen pass reception makes it 4th and 1, but the Beavers are backed up in their own territory and are forced to punt.

Gerard Lawson shows an extreme lack of class and sportsmanship in his coverage of the punt return. Takes me back to the Erickson days. The penalty takes the ball out to the Beaver 49 yard line, where Maryland will attempt to get on the board for the first time since the opening quarter. Close calls in the secondary result in nil for the Terps, and they too are forced to punt again.

Bernard now has 33 carries, and about 173 yards on the ground, with 4:44 to go. It appears that he is leaving the game for what may be the last time in his OSU career. Thanks for the memories, Yve. With Bernard out, expect a lot of James Rogers and Matt Sieverson.

James Rogers is really, really fast. Lets just call him James “first down” Rogers.

The final two minutes appear to be heading towards an anti-climatic ending. Despite Mistakes, OSU has maintained control of the game since the closing minutes of the first quarter.

James Rogers is really, really fast. Told ya. Every play. You can’t beat him. He has 110 yards in the game, but appeared to be injured. He got up with the help of the trainers and jogged off the field under his own power. It doesn’t appear to be anything that a long off season can’t cure.

Bernard is back in the game with 1:12 to go, on the Terrapin 11. He carries it up the middle for his 37th and 38th carries of the game. OSU doesn’t get the TD, but they get the win!

Final Score: OSU 21, Maryland 14

Mike Riley is undefeated in bowl appearances as either a head or assistant coach. . .7 straight victories (3 as an assistant were with USC)

Great Season Beavers. 9-4 ain’t bad, considering.
