The Civil War Football Experience

Even though KBVR Sports was in hostile territory, everyone seemed to be nice. I thought that KBVR Sports was finally getting a decent level of respect. Turns out everyone knew we were about to get hosed.

Let it be known that I am the last person to publicly complain about anything. A cold meal at Shari’s? I’ll survive. Long line at the airport? It’s just part of the experience. Put up on the roof of Autzen Stadium to call a football game?

Inexcusable.

The Ducks Sports information Department should be doing some soul searching (if they have one) today, tomorrow and for the rest of eternity. Myself, along with Eric Bartz, Jeremy Tricola and Jack Kemp spent the entirety of the Civil War football game on the roof of Autzen Stadium.

Pardon me, the “Camera Deck.”

I understand that student media doesn’t get perks. I know that student media will be outside, somewhere. But the roof? The Camera Deck? KBVR Sports stood right next to those guys you see on TV that are dressed like they are prepared to climb Mount Everest. Or brave a hurricane.

The Camera Deck? We needed a couple of mountain goats and a Sherpa just to find our spot. Even the birds fly BELOW us. Brandon Williams ears popped at the top of the elevator and the camera guy down the row has an oxygen tank. The players look like dots and the field looks like a doormat.

This “Camera Deck” was only partially covered, open to the wind and rain. Not like we have expensive equipment or anything.

This is where Eric Bartz will be calling play-by-play, I will be doing analysis, Jeremy Tricola will be collecting stats and our Engineer Jack Kemp will be freezing his tail off.

Thanks U of O Sports Information. You take the cake for pulling off the biggest hose job in the history of life. I hope U of O Sports Information office is laughing right now. They deserve a good laugh, because that was a joke.
