A dominant performance led to what became a foregone conclusion on a Monday night in late September as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Washington Nationals 8-0 to clinch the NL East division title.

Should we be surprised?
The Phillies did it again.
How can you ever count this group out of a baseball game? Time and time again the Philadelphia Phillies prove that they are not done until the final out is recorded. They showed the faithful on hand at Citizens Bank Park one more time on a Sunday afternoon in September with a dramatic 7-6 come from behind victory over the Washington Nationals.

What the heck just happened?
“It’s hard to explain, really,” said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel.
It was almost impossible to explain the events that occurred at AT & T Park in San Francisco. On a Wednesday afternoon in late April, the Phillies were on the verge of being swept by the eventual 2010 World Series Champion Giants. The offense was sputtering and Philadelphia was poised to finish a 9-game road trip with a 3-6 record.

One of the best things about following baseball is when one of your team’s top prospects finally breaks through and makes his Major League debut. Who will forget Brett Myers going toe-to-toe with Mark Prior at Wrigley Field back in July of 2002? Or Cole Hamels allowing just 1 hit and striking out 7 batters in his MLB debut in Cincinnati in 2006. Even Chase Utley hitting a Grand Slam home run in his first ever start at Veteran’s Stadium in 2003.
