Cubs sign P Doug Davis

The Chicago Cubs have signed free-agent left-handed starter Doug Davis to a minor-league contract.

MLBTradeRumors.com was first to report the deal.

Davis will head to Arizona for extended Spring Training in hopes of providing depth in the back-end of the Cubs rotation. Chicago is in search of pitching depth after both Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner were placed on the Disabled List due to injury.

The 35-year old made only eight starts with the Milwaukee Brewers last year due to a heart condition and eventual surgery to fix a small tear in the flexor tendon of his elbow.

In 12 MLB seasons Davis has accumulated a 91-101 record with a 4.38 ERA.
