Bruce Pearl was fired as the coach of the Tennessee Volunteers.
In six seasons, he led the Volunteers to their first No. 1 ranking – only missing out on a trip to the 2010 Final Four by a single point.
Tennessee was 19-15 this season and lost to Michigan in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
Pearl met with the Tennessee AD, Mike Hamilton, Monday. He was told, then, of the school’s decision, according to FoxSports.com’s Jeff Goodman – and other media reports.
The school decided not to sign him to another contract – he’s been working without one since September.
Pearl may have driven himself to unemployment. He gave NCAA investigators false information when asked about his interaction with high school juniors.
