Alabama pounds Auburn in Iron Bowl, 42-14

Trent Richardson took a big step toward locking up the Heisman Trophy Saturday. He rushed for a career-high 203 yards and helped No. 2 Alabama to a 42-14 second half routing of Auburn on Saturday.

Richardson carried the ball 27 times – including runs of 35 and 57 yards. He can now rest until Alabama get placed in a bowl game. Which bowl is still uncertain.

The Crimson Tide (11-1, 7-1) will now wait to see how their body of work is good enough to keep them in the National Championship. In nine of their 11 games they have scored over 30 points, the only time they fell short was 27 against Penn State and six points against No. 1 LSU.

For Auburn (7-5, 4-4) the 2011 Iron Bowl was the complete antithesis of the 2010 game.

“I’ve got a locker room full of guys right now and coaches that are hurting and a lot of fans that are hurting as well,” Tigers coach Gene Chizik told reporters after the game. “So this is a tough day.”
