A lot of players are “over the hill” at 30. Maybe retire by 40. But in Alabama, a 61-year-old Vietnam veteran and grandfather is just getting his started.
Alan Moore became the oldest player ever to play in a college football game when he kicked an extra point for NAIA Faulkner in its season-opener. Moore’s kick made the score 25-0.
Moore started his college career back in the ’60s before joining the armed forces. He used a square-toed shoe and kicked straight-on, according to reports. And when he left the field received high-fives and fist-bumps from players who’s parents were just being born the last time Moore played in a college football game.
He replaces Tom Thompson in the record books as the oldest player to ever play. Thompson was also 61 when he kicked an extra point for a team back in 2009 for the Divison III Austin College Kangaroos.
