Conference USA school, SMU, wants to join an automatic qualifying BCS conference. And the school has it’s eyes on the Big 12.
SMU Athletic Director, Steve Orsini, mentioned to reporters that he’s taken part in a few informal discussions with some Big 12 officials. The Big 12 is most curious about SMU’s academic and athletic improvements and growth.
Orsini said it’s been SMU’s goal to join a BCS conference for a few years. When Texas A&M left for the SEC, SMU jumped up and reminded the Big 12, “We’re here!”
While BCS status is what really entices the SMU Mustangs, Orsini also wants to return regional rivalries.
