Even though NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly and players’ association special counsel Steve Fehr spoke to each other on Saturday, don;t get your hopes up.
It’s something our good friend Mike Lederer knows too well. Labor disputes. While Lederer spent all of 2010 and 2011 preparing for, then living through, and then finally rejoicing at the end of the NFL Lockout, the NHL Lockout is a different story.
I don’t think Mike is holding his breath on this one. And for good reason.
The two sides still have no plans to meet face-to-face as the calendar closes in on the first day of a regular hockey season.
As per standard operating procedure “No details of what Daly and Fehr discussed on Saturday were released” according to The Associated Press.
Although, both sides did say there were no new developments.
For those counting, this is Lockout Day No. 35. The NHL already cancelled all games through Nov. 1 and it says a deal must be reached by this Thursday in order for each team to play a full 82-game schedule.
