This is how most schools want to celebrate homecoming: Humiliating the opposition. On Endicott’s Homecoming Weekend, the Gulls rolled over Plymouth State scoring 49 points and only allowing 125 yards of Panther offense.
Oh, and they blanked them on the scoreboard, too. It’s probably best only 2200 people showed up for the game or more people would be talking about this game.
Endicott, working at a record-setting pace, improved to 7-0 (4-0 NEFC Boyd). Plymouth State dropped to 4-3 (2-2 NEFC Boyd) following the loss.
Gulls senior running back Mike Lane scored four times, breaking an Endicott record for touchdowns in a single game. Lane’s 147-yard effort on the ground is his sixth straight game with at least 100 yards and a touchdown.
The Gulls running attack ate their Wheaties Saturday morning. Junior RB Mike Wheeler had a 54-yard touchdown scamper and senior RB Topher Pochebit added 48 yards on eight carries.
Then again, so did the defense.
Gulls senior defensive end Kevin Eagan might not be grabbing any of the scouts attention but he should. At 6-foot-4 and 276 pounds this man can play. Fast.
Eagan finished the game with 13 total tackles, two for a loss and two interceptions – on back-to-back possessions no less.
Here’s the two interceptions as recalled by the Endicott Athletics page:
On his first interception, Eagan pressured the quarterback on a third and goal play deep in the Endicott zone. Eagan deflected Plymouth State quarterback Joey Avila’s (Gloucester, Mass.) pass and leapt in the air to intercept the ball. On the Panthers very next possession, Eagan made a diving pick after Gulls sophomore linebacker Andrew Holfinger (Sterling, Mass.) disrupted and deflected Avila’s pass attempt.
The only shining moment for Plymouth State came midway through the third quarter. After an Endicott drive stalled, the team tried a 24-yard field goal and it was blocked by Plymouth State junior Ray Boulay.
