The UNLV football coach, Bobby Hauck, doesn’t necessarily have a “poor” winning percentage. It is more, like, bad. During his time at UNLV the team is 2-12. His only wins are a 45-10 thumping of the New Mexico Lobos and a similar whacking, 42-16, over Wyoming.
Yet, he is going to receive a contract extension. Thursday, UNLV announced Hauck was given a two-year contract extension. The move keeps the coach through 2014 at his current annual salary of $350,000.
Granted, UNLV isn’t scheduling cupcakes. The team opened against Wisconsin last season, played Utah (ranked in the Top 25 at the time), West Virginia, TCU, BYU and Hawaii (also ranked in the Top 25).
The Rebels finished 2-11 last season. They opened with Wisconsin again this season, losing 51-17.
The UNLV Athletic Director, Jim Livengood, said Thursday the school is thrilled to have Hauck leading the program and expects the contract extension to help stabilize the football program for the future.
The Rebels play at Washington State on Saturday. They have lost nine-consecutive road games and 2-16 on the road dating back to 2008.
