Rhode Island Rams will be busting into the Carrier Dome Saturday to take on the Syracuse Orange.
Rams coach, Joe Trainer, is ready for the challenge. Even though his team doesn’t have a great history versus Big East schools – 0-3 all-time versus Big East opponents – his players will be fresh, playing in their first game of the season.
The Rams, an FCS school, are “playing up” facing an FBS school. The only other time the two teams played, Syracuse won, 63-17, in the Carrier Dome in 2002.
Recall, Syracuse opened its season with a thrilling 32-29 overtime win over Wake Forest just a week and a half ago.
Rhode Island might have a better shot at coming away with a victory this year. Orange defensive end Chandler Jones, safety Olando Fisher and cornerback Ri’Shard Anderson have been ruled out for the game.
