To the casual fan, Appalachian State is best known for beating Michigan. Now, a committee for the school says the Mountaineers’ football program should jump to the Bowl Subdivision.
Apparently, they are ready for Primetime.
According to reports, n 11-persona committee set up to examine the athletic feasibility at the next level voted Monday to recommend to the school’s chancellor, Kenneth Peacock, that it seek membership in an FBS conference.
The committee co-chairman, G.A. Sywassink, announced that the move wasn’t official or even in the plans yet, but the school did need to prepare for a move before “another seismic shift” occurs in conference affiliations.
For those not familiar with the FCS, the Mountaineers won three-consecutive Football Championship Subdivision titles from 2005-07. They have captured six straight Southern Conference titles and have led the FCS in regular-season home attendance four straight years.
They are, “kind of a big deal” in the FCS circles.
