After finishing the regular season with five consecutive losses, The Beavers are headed back to the NCAA Super Regional for the first time since 2007. And they are winning the same way they did back when they won back-to-back National Championships: Pitching their tails off.
The Beavers lowered their team ERA to a staggering 2.93 this past weekend. Beavers hurler Sam Gaviglio, who boasts a 12-2 record and a 1.87 ERA, tossed 11 strikeouts in the 5-1 win against Creighton on June 5.
Oregon State (41-17) faces a team that’s only lost just four games at home this season. The Vanderbilt Commodores are the No. 6 national seed in the NCAA tournament and whizzed through the Nashville Regional outscoring opponents by a combined 26-3.
The Vanderbilt Commodores can’t wait to find out how much home field advantage helps in the NCAA Super Regional – they lost their first two trips to the NCAA Super Regional on the road.
