The California Golden Bears were not messing around. They had no passing thoughts about taking a chill pill. The Bears beat Dallas Baptist 7-0 Saturday in the first game of the NCAA Super Regional.
Justin Jones threw a one-hitter over six innings. Chad Bunting and Marcus Semien each hit three-run homers and Devon Rodriguez drove in a run to secure the win – the Bears’ fifth straight.
The only down note for Cal, Jones eft the game with a left biceps problem after warming up on the mound in the seventh.
Brandon Williamson went 7 2-3 innings for the Patriots and allowed a season-high seven runs. He also gave up 10 hits and walked one.
The Bears now lead the best-of-three series, 1-0.
