Some stories are so good, I need to borrow it, verbatim, from The Associated Press. The latest development in the Lance Armstrong story is one of those times.
Get this, The Associated Press is reporting:
Attorneys for Lance Armstrong are demanding an on-air apology from “60 Minutes” over claims their client tested positive for a banned substance at the 2001 Tour de Suisse.
In a letter sent Wednesday to CBS, lawyer Elliot Peters says the May 22 segment about Armstrong was built on a series of falsehoods, and he accuses the reputable show of shoddy journalism.
Former teammate Tyler Hamilton alleged in the piece that Armstrong talked about using the banned blood-booster EPO to prepare for his third Tour de France in 2001 and cycling’s governing body helped him hide a positive test at the Swiss event.
Last week, the head of Switzerland’s anti-doping laboratory, Martial Saugy, denied allegations Armstrong tested positive for performing-enhancing drugs during the 2001 Tour de Suisse.
Does anyone else feel like Lance Armstrong is slowly turning into Barry Bonds? Okay, that might be a little too far. But the truth is, general fans are starting to doubt the seven-time Tour De France champion is 100-percent clean.
Yikes.
