Tyler Hamilton’s attorney told ESPN.com that the cyclist informed federal authorities about an incident involving Hamilton and fellow cyclist Lance Armstrong.
Hamilton, who recently accused the seven-time Tour de France winner of doping, had a conversation with Armstrong in an Aspen, Colo. restaurant Saturday night. Attorney Chris Manderson says Hamilton told him Armstrong made derisive comments.
Meanwhile the restaurant co-owner and friend of Armstrong also told ESPN.com: “It was not a big confrontation.”
A Los Angeles-based grand jury is hearing evidence that could lead to charges of fraud, conspiracy and drug trafficking against Armstrong and his team.
NEW DETAILS
The FBI has contacted the Colorado restaurant to get surveillance tapes of a conversation between seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong and former teammate Tyler Hamilton, according to The Associated Press.
Apparently, Armstrong and Hamilton ran into each other at the restaurant in Aspen on Saturday night. And Hamilton’s attorney is suggesting that the conversation turned confrontational. Hamilton attorney, Manderson says his client was rattled by some of Armstrong’s comments.
Meanwhile, Armstrong and one of his lawyers say the conversation was uneventful.
A co-owner of the restaurant, which is called Cache Cache, said Tuesday that the FBI was coming to take the restaurant’s surveillance tapes. It’s unclear whether the conversation was captured on tape.
