Missouri Tigers are taking their talents from South Beach.
Frank Haith has agreed take the head coaching position at Missouri, according to the Associated Press.
He leaves Miami after seven seasons with a 129-101 record.
While Haith’s deal with Missouri is not yet finalized, the Associated Press is reporting that that no contract has been signed. But they do say Missouri officials are scheduled to meet late Monday night to confirm terms of the contract.
Other outlets are corroborating with this story. Both CBSsports and Scout.com have issued similar reports.
At the time of this report Miami and Missouri have yet to comment.
Haith’s wiki page has already been updated.
In six seasons, Haith led the Hurricanes to four postseason appearances. Haith’s reputation as a top recruiter and developer of talent was evident with a recruiting class ranked among the nation’s Top 25 by both ESPN and Scout.com.
The fan base is likely uncomfortable. After losing Mike Anderson, the school was rumored to be talking with VCU coach Shaka Smart, one of the hottest names in college basketball, and luring him with a lucrative contract.
Some fans have went so far as to create a fake Frank Haith twitter account.
Other fans used the power of twitter to make immediate comments.
“Dear Mizzou,” @MattCochran tweeted. “I understand all students are coming back from spring break in Florida but that doesn’t mean you can bring back Frank Haith too”
The deal with Haith hasn’t been released. He still has two years left on his contract with Miami. He was set to earn roughly $1.5 million per year.
“Frank Haith. Nice man,” @realdandrucker tweeted. “Would not have hired him with Monopoly money. But we’ll see.”
