Flyers’ Pronger & Carter OUT for remainder of 1st round series

The Philadelphia Flyers road to the 2nd round of the postseason just became a whole lot tougher.

According to Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com, defenseman Chris Pronger and center Jeff Carter will not play for the remainder of the Flyers first round series against the Buffalo Sabres

Pronger has been battling back from a broken hand. He has been out of the lineup since March 8th. He was initially injured back on Feb. 24 against the New York Islanders when he was hit by a shot from the Isles’ Ty Wishart.

Pronger was told he would need 3 to 4 weeks before returning to the lineup. He returned to practice just a week after the surgery and was defending teammates and taking hard shots at practice as early as 10 days after the surgery. However he suffered a “minor setback” the last week of the regular season that has delayed his return to the lineup.

Carter was injured during Game 4 of the Flyers vs Sabres series. He reportedly suffered a sprained MCL and is wearing a brace on his injured knee.

The short handed Flyers will take on the Sabres in a pivotal Game 5 matchup Friday night in Philadelphia with the series tied two games a piece.
