Pittsburgh Pirates moving pitchers

Charlie Morton is looking like he will grab the final spot in the starting roation. in 14 innings of work over 14 games, Morton has a 1.29 ERA with eight strikeouts.

Also, according to the Associated Press, the Pirates reassigned relievers Justin Thomas and Fernando Nieve and unconditionally released infielder Garrett Atkins.

On top of that, the Pirates might start the season one man down. South-paw, Scott Olsen, might start the season on the diabled list.

“The ball is just not coming out of his hand the way it was before the hamstring injury,” general manager Neal Huntington told the AP Monday.

Olsen isn’t in the starting rotation, according to the AP.

Olsen has missed about five weeks of Spring Training because of a sore/strained left hamstring. The Pirates tried to use him out of the bullpen, but that didn’t end well – 15.43 ERA in two-and-one-thirds-innings.
