When the Auburn Athletic Department laid off five workers, they were prepared – like any company – to defend the move.
But not against racism.
Those five workers, along with four other workers who were transferred to another department, filed a federal lawsuit accusing the school of racial discrimination, according to the Associated Press. The lawsuit alleges “rampant discrimination” against African-American workers.
The layoffs and transfers were apart of a reorganization effort after Auburn moved from Beard-Eaves Coliseum to the smaller new Auburn Arena.
University spokesman Mike Clardy told the Associated Press attorneys have not seen the lawsuit.
