The LPGA announced today that it will remove a specific stipulation from the rule books. The prerequisite “female at birth” will no longer be on the rule books for those who wish to enter the LPGA.
This decision comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by Lana Lawless on Oct. 12. The former police officer, had a sex change operation five years ago and claimed that the “female at birth” requirement was a violation of civil rights.
She sued the league after she was barred from competing in the LPGA despite winning the long drive compeition in 2008 in the Long Drive Association.
