Storm Prediction Center increases tornado risk for parts of south Mississippi

Storm Prediction Center increases tornado risk for parts of south Mississippi

Nick Lilja Thursday, December 27, 2018 // 12:06 pm | 2 Responses

The Storm Prediction Center upped the risk of a tornado for a handful of southern Mississippi counties. Through Thursday night, the Tornado Risk was increased from 2-percent to a 5-percent risk. A good way to think of it is, that it means the area is five-times more likely to see a tornado today than any other day. Truly, the overall… Read more →

South Mississippi severe weather breakdown and explainer

Nick Lilja Thursday, December 27, 2018 // 1:28 am

The threat for severe weather and flooding remains for south Mississippi on Thursday and into Friday morning. As an area of low pressure moves northwest through Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, it will push two rounds of rain through parts of the Gulf coast. The first round will slow to a halt and fall apart across parts of Mississippi. The second… Read more →

Some Christmas cheer from… Kool-Aid & Lil Jon?! And Kevin McCallister?!

Nick Lilja Thursday, December 20, 2018 // 12:57 pm

So, obviously, this isn’t weather-related. But two things happened that needed to be addressed here.

The first is an ad for Kool-Aid that was so ridiculously catchy – and seemingly random – that I had to share it.

Ohhhhhh yeah! @LilJon #Mic #Drop #AllIReallyWantForChristmas #KoolAidManLilJon pic.twitter.com/i4MoCZrU8m

— Kool-Aid (@koolaid) December 17, 2018

You can’t say that beat isn’t catchy. Also, all I really want for Christmas is – literally – everything on my list. Or, you know, I wouldn’t have made the list.

I digress.

If you were apart of the Pop Culture world between 1998 and 2012, Lil Jon was probably apart of your casual conversational references. He became popular of screaming in the background of beats he made for popular rappers. Comedian Dave Chappelle then made a skit poking fun at Lil Jon about it, while exploring his day-to-day lifestyle hollering one-word phrases at people.

Things like “WHAT?” “YEAAHH!” and OOOKAYYY!!” were often hollered by regular people, mimicking Mr. Jon.

He then made the beat “Yeah!” for Usher, solidifying his one-word hollering in Pop Culture lore.

In hindsight, this marriage between The Kool-Aid Man, who once screamed “OH YEAH!” in commercials in the 90s and Lil Jon seems to be a no-brainer. Both are popular for being rowdy and hollering at people.

And both are awesome at a party.

Meanwhile, Macauley Culkin also made an ad. For Google?

#heygoogle Have you ever wondered what Kevin McCallister is like as an adult?  Me neither. But just in case you’re curious you should totally watch this #ad pic.twitter.com/uO9qMPrUT3

— Macaulay Culkin (@IncredibleCulk) December 19, 2018

For kids of the 80s and 90s, Home Alone was the ultimate Christmas movie. Kid, left alone, to defend his castle, bea… You know, if you don’t know about Home Alone, I’m not going to spoil it. Go watch the movie, it’s great.

Anyway, the ad tugs at nostalgia while highlighting all of the things that Google can do for Kevin now.

It still feels weird to see Mcauley as an adult, though. ∞

12/11/18 Detailed forecast for South Mississippi

Nick Lilja Tuesday, December 11, 2018 // 4:21 pm

Thursday, as clouds continue to increase, rain chances will increase, too. Highs will be around 65 with a 70 percent chance for rain. We may see a few storms here and there, but the threat for severe weahter is looking pretty limited at this time. Current model trends keep the warm front too far to the south for severe weahter… Read more →

Listening to the wind on Mars

Nick Lilja Saturday, December 8, 2018 // 7:05 pm

From NASA: Listen to Martian wind blow across NASA’s InSight lander. The spacecraft’s seismometer and air pressure sensor picked up vibrations from 10-15 mph (16-24 kph) winds as they blew across Mars’ Elysium Planitia on Dec. 1, 2018. The seismometer readings are in the range of human hearing, but are nearly all bass and difficult to hear on laptop speakers… Read more →
