Status Updates

UPDATE: A 5.3 magnitude aftershock was registered about 8:00am this morning near the original quake. Also the original quake has been re-evaluated to a 6.2 magnitude.

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook Estado Libre y Soberano de Guerrero in Mexico this morning around 7:30am.

Preliminary reports show the quake to be 34km deep and centered about 11 miles northwest of Ayutla de los Libres, Mexico – or about 85 miles east of Acapulco.

Based on the “Skae Map” available from the USGS, the earthquake was felt mainly in El Ocotito, Ayulta, Las Vigas and San Marcos. Some shaking was likely felt Acapulco, too.

Well, the week of was nice, but now it’s back to forecasting for the high plains.. Which is almost as fun.

Sadly, though, as we enter a more “summer-like” pattern across the Texas panhandle, our rain chances will be diminishing quite a bit. In fact, the most recent models are now suggesting a pretty substantial ridge of high pressure settling in across the area starting Tuesday and holding on through early next week.

That spells little-to-no-rain-chances and hot temperatures. Buckle up for the 90s and 100s to build into the area starting Tuesday and holding on until – as it looks right now – next Monday.

But after that, things may become more interesting once again with some showers and storms forecast for NEXT Tuesday through Friday.

We’ll have to play the waiting game in the meantime. Get the AC ready!

While I did have a chance to get out and do some chasing last Thursday, on Friday I did some “From Home Monitoring” and then Saturday let the storms come to me.

Which would usually give me plenty of time to sit down and give everyone th heads up and a full breakdown o what was happening… But I didn’t

Uber fail.

But, it’s a new week and I’ll gt back on my horse. In fact, a quick breakdown of this week is coming in a few hours! Get ready!

 

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone across the high plains know that severe weather is still a possibility Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

On the heels of what happened in Oklahoma City, I would stress that it is very – VERY – important to talk with your family and friends and have a plan.

Make preparations now so that you aren’t caught off-guard if something bad is to happen.
