As always, a reminder that I am not a doctor, nor am I a medical profesional. I do mathematics and statistics for a living. These posts are an attempt to give a plain-English update to the COVID-19 outbreak, grab the research behind some of the headlines, and present it all in an easy to digest way. Again, I am not… Read more →

4/13/20 PM COVID19 Update: New numbers, grocery shopping tips, new info for pregnant women and more

Nick Lilja Tuesday, April 14, 2020 // 1:35 am

Now that the severe weather has ended, I wanted to get back to updating everyone on the Coronavirus. During the past few days – since my last update – the numbers have climbed quite a bit. SPC continues “Moderate” risk for portions of Southeast

Nick Lilja Saturday, April 11, 2020 // 1:44 am | 1 Response

As the next system continues to drift toward the region, there is increasing confidence that when it arrives it will bring significant severe weather with it. The Storm Prediction Center opted to keep – roughly – the same Moderate risk area for the southeast, but expanded the Enhanced Risk area and Slight Risk area. From the SPC …East TX northeastward… Read more →

Moderate Risk: Easter Sunday severe threat for the Gulf Coast

Nick Lilja Friday, April 10, 2020 // 11:27 am

As a system passes through the region, it will open the door for showers, storms and the potential for severe weather. Come to think of it, I say this in almost every post. But this is not an “every post” kind of system. This one looks pretty potent. A Moderate Risk is in place for parts of Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi… Read more →
