So, I know it feels like I fell off the face of the planet the last few days. No updates. No pictures. No videos.

Sorry!

While I did have a chance to get out and do some chasing last Thursday, on Friday I did some “From Home Monitoring” and then Saturday let the storms come to me.

Which would usually give me plenty of time to sit down and give everyone th heads up and a full breakdown o what was happening… But I didn’t

Uber fail.

But, it’s a new week and I’ll gt back on my horse. In fact, a quick breakdown of this week is coming in a few hours! Get ready!

Storm chasing? Ha! Storm waiting!

On Saturday night, I had a chance to “let the storms come to me” and wait at home for a line to develop west of Amarillo and push through the city.

It turned out to be perfect luck for everyone in town. The line originally had a severe thunderstorm warning for ping pong hail and 60mph winds. But by the time it got to town, just dime-sized hail and 50mph winds.

So, the city dodged the damaging wind and hail and instead picked up between .35″ and .60″ of rain – depending on location.

As a bonus this was quite the electrical storm. Here are two videos I shot with my iphone – apologies for the poor quality – from the back patio of my apartment.

Severe weather possible Thursday across high plains

Severe weather possible Thursday across high plains

Nick Lilja Wednesday, May 22, 2013 // 7:43 am

It’s a classic spring setup as the week closes across the high plains. A southwest flow aloft, moisture at the surface and the hint of a frontal boundary will supply enough juice to spark a few showers and mainly a few thunderstorms. Quick Breakdown Thursday, Friday and Saturday the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles will be “under the gun” so to… Read more →

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone across the high plains know that severe weather is still a possibility Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

On the heels of what happened in Oklahoma City, I would stress that it is very – VERY – important to talk with your family and friends and have a plan.

Make preparations now so that you aren’t caught off-guard if something bad is to happen.

High Plains weather continues "spring-like" this week

High Plains weather continues “spring-like” this week

Nick Lilja Monday, May 20, 2013 // 2:58 am

Enjoy today, Tuesday and Wednesday, folks, because by Thursday and into your Memorial Day weekend, things across the high plains, central plains and Midwest could get rather interesting. A Quick Breakdown Both the GFS computer weather model and the ECMWF are in decent agreement that a chance for showers and thunderstorms exists for the high plains and central plains by… Read more →
