During the past three NCAA baseball seasons Anthony Rendon has been the most productive hitter. The Rice Owls’ third baseman is one of the leader for the first-round pick in the MLB Draft.
But he hasn’t been swinging his bat as much this spring – and not by choice. When the six-foot-high junior isn’t battling his sore shoulder, he’s battling smart pitching. Rendon leads Division-I baseball with 76 walks this season.
In the opening game of the Conference USA Championship tournament Wednesday afternoon at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi, Rendon went 2-for-5 and scored once.
During the past two seasons with the Owls, he has a combined 46 homers. So far this season, he has just five.
