Rockies’ Jorge De La Rosa out for the season

Colorado Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa will miss the remainder of the 2011 season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left pitching elbow.

De La Rosa left in the third inning of game one of the Rockies double header on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to soreness in his left elbow.

After the Rockies 12-4 victory the team announced De La Rosa’s injury.

“Rockies LHP Jorge De La Rosa suffered a complete tear of his ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. The next step is being discussed.”

A torn ulnar collateral ligament generally requires Tommy John surgery which would sideline the left-hander for about one full year.

De La Rosa was 5-2 with a 3.51 ERA on the season.
